How to Get to the Island from Other Destinations?

There are many alternative ways to travel in Thailand. We have listed the most common below:

From Bangkok by Flight

Bangkok Airways flies directly from Suvarnabhumi Airport (Bangkok International Airport) (BKK) to Koh Samui Airport (USM). Thai Airways, One-Two-Go and Air Asia flies to Surat Thani Airport. From there you'll have to catch the waiting bus or a taxi to the pier in Donsak. In Donsak there are several ferry operators, Seatran, Raja Ferry and Lomprayah, that have ferries which departs every hour to Koh Samui. Some of the ferries accept cars.

Going from Bangkok by Train

The train leaves from Hualampong Railway Station and arrives in Surat Thani town. Tickets are available at the train station or in any travel agency in Bangkok. We recommend a 1th or 2nd class sleeping car. From Surat Thani, there are a minivans or buses operating to the ferry piers of Donsak. Ferries leaves every hour for Samui, during daytime.

Going from Bangkok by Bus

The buses leaves from the Southern Bus Terminal at Boromrat Chonnani Road and from Khao San Road. Tickets can be bought at the bus terminal, or at any travel agency in the capital. The so called VIP buses are the most convenient ones. The ferry leaves from Donsak and other piers in the Suratthani area.

Going from Phuket or Krabi

Traveling by bus is available from both Krabi and Phuket. The tickets can be bought in almost any local travel agency. You can also fly. Bangkok Airways have direct flights from Phuket Airport (HKT) to Samui.

From Other Destinations

It is possible to travel to Bangkok by bus (and often train) from almost any town in Thailand. Most larger cities and popular destinations have airports.
