Ko
Samui attractions
Big
Buddha
Big
Buddha
on the North East part of the island is since 1972 one of Samui's major
attractions. The twelve meter high monument is built on a hill which
makes
it visible even from a far distance. Even if there is plenty of
souvenirs
shop next to the giant Buddha the whole area work as a religious site.
Please wear long trousers and at least a shirt while visiting to show
respect
towards the local monks and their believes.
Wat
Plai Laem
A
number
of interesting buildings and colorful Buddha statues may bring the
thoughts
to India. This unique and very colorful temple is to be found on
North-Eastern
part of the island, rather close to Big Buddha.
View
Point and Magic Garden
These
are both found close to the highest top of the island, about 600 meters
over the sea level. In the area around the top there are plenty of
restaurants
and view point to be found. In the same high area, one monk alone did
built
the spectacular "magic garden". The monk dug a large canal with his
hands
and later decorated the whole area with a large number of hand made
statues.
Along the main road between Nathon and Lamai you find the road who
leads
you all the way to the top. If you want to combine the attraction with
some adventure, you can rent a dirt bike and reach the top from some of
the smaller jungle roads that runs next to the main road. A valid
insurance
and a good helmet is a good idea and we definitely recommend it.

Hin
Ta & Hin Yai
In
the
South part of Lamai you will find the unique rocks Hin Ta & Hin
Yai.
The name which means "grandfather and grandmother rocks" is inspired
from
the stones similarity to the men and women's intimate parts. The nature
around to the stones might give a feeling of "fantasy" and the water is
suitable for swimming. During the last thirty years the two stones have
come to be found on many of the postcards sent from Lamai.
The
mummified monk
In
the
temple; Wat Khunarem, a few kilometers West of Lamai you will find
something
as rare as a mummified monk. As a living man his name was Loung
Pordaeng
and when he died in 1977 the legend says that he was sitting in the
same
lotus position as he do today. Many Buddhists believes that Pordaeng's
high spiritual level kept the remains of his body intact.
Waterfall
Namuang I & II
The
most
popular waterfall is both named Na Muang and is separated by being
called
number I and II. Number one is to be found a couple of hundred meter
from
the road and number two can be reach after a 30 minute jungle march.
The
falls has almost chilly water and together with the natural created
pools,
the water is suitable for swimming. The road that brings you to Na
Muang
is to be found along the main road between Nathon and Lamai.
Waterfall
Hin Lad
Hin
Lad
Waterfall is found just South of Nathon town. A three kilometer jungle
path leads you from the Ring Road to the fall. All Samui's waterfall
becomes
larger and more impressive during the rain season. In dry weather
periods,
they might not that much of an attraction for some people used to visit
large waterfalls.
Ang
Thong National Marine Park
West
of Samui you will find the group of islands that together create the
well
kept National Park of Angthong. Quiet beaches and a wild jungle make
the
park one of Surat Thani's greatest attractions. On the parks main
island,
Ko Wua Talap, you will find the highest top in the area. The 430 meter
high view point can be reach after a one hour tough walk. Kayaking,
snorkeling
and a visit to the hidden lagoon is some the parks most popular
activities.
The famous movie; The Beach, takes place on a figurative island in the
North part of the park. The park can be reach by boat from Samui and
the
traveling time is approximately 90 minutes.
Snake
Show
On
the
South-West part of Samui you find the islands largest snake and reptile
show. The notorious King cobra, play an active part in the major event
of the spectacular show.
Buffalo
fights
A
traditional
fighting show, in which betting with money plays a large part. The
buffalo
fights are very popular among the native Thai population and the event
takes place in a large arena where two buffalo fights in a natural
struggle,
which often (but not always) goes by without bloodshed. The fight is
normally
over when an animal surrender by escaping the fight.
Cinema

islands
one and only movie theater is located inside the Tesco Lotus shopping
centre.
